PUTTING DELAWAREANS BACK TO WORK: ECONOMIC RECOVERY IN THE FIRST STATE
The necessary and well-considered restrictions enacted by the State of Delaware and the guidance from the CDC as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have brought Delaware’s economy to a standstill. As we begin to emerge on the other side of the public health crisis, there is still much work to do. Just as state and health care leaders have been laser-focused on efforts to minimize the impact of the virus on Delawareans, business and community leaders must now play a vital role in getting Delawareans back to work and driving economic recovery in Delaware without a resurgence of the virus. Held on July 21, 2020, this virtual conference explored strategies and policies to restore the state’s economy and to enable Delawareans to safely return to work.

CREATING A DOOR OF OPPORTUNITY: AN EMPLOYER'S ROLE
Workforce development and diversity & inclusion initiatives are a priority for businesses, large and small. We hear the term, “opportunity gap” as applied to the experiences of people of color in America, especially Black and African American employees. This is a serious issue not only for Delaware but our nation as whole. So how can you as an employer play a vital role in helping to close the opportunity gap? Stephanie Creary, Ph.D. of University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and Dr. Tony Allen of Delaware State University joined us this week for an important conversation on how employers can play a role in closing the opportunity gap. They also provided concrete steps businesses can take to recruit, engage, develop, and retain Black and African American employees. |
