Intern at the chamber

The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce has been serving Delaware's business community since 1837. Our mission is to promote an economic climate that enables businesses of all sizes and types to become more competitive in a constantly changing, increasingly global, and unpredictable environment. The Chamber will provide valued services to members; it will serve to be recognized as the primary advocate in the state for business interests.

The Chamber seeks interns throughout the year. Chamber internships are unpaid, but we work with colleges and universities to provide credit. Parking is reimbursed. Please direct all internship inquiries, including a cover letter and resume, to Kelly Basile.

COMMUNICATIONS & EVENTS INTERN
The Chamber produces an award-winning bimonthly magazine, maintains electronic communications, and coordinates media and public relations for news and events. The Chamber also organizes and implements up to 100 events per year, ranging from small networking breakfasts that attract approximately 50 people, to our Annual Dinner with an attendance of nearly 1,000 people. Interns will help support these efforts. Interested candidates should include two to three writing samples with their inquiry.

Open to: Students in their junior or senior year of college seeking practical business/technical communications and publishing experience.

DUTIES:
  • Assisting in the production of Delaware Business magazine by writing articles, taking photos, etc.
  • Crafting press releases and marketing materials
  • Database and information management
  • Collaborating on social media
  • Member engagement
  • Assisting with event planning and coordination
  • Supporting staff at events with registration, taking photos and assisting members as needed
  • Tracking event details and maintaining Chamber calendars
  • Working with event vendors and attendees
  • Providing customer service
  • Administrative and other department support as needed
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
  • Demonstrated business and professional writing skills
  • At least 10 hours a week availability
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced team environment
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred, but not required
POLICY INTERN
​
The State Chamber acts as the voice of the Delaware business community to state legislators. In this role it serves as an advocate and a resource center. Interns will see legislative advocacy in action by visiting Legislative Hall, interacting with state legislators and lobbyists, and following legislation from the proposal stage to the implementation stage.

Open to: Students in their junior or senior year of college seeking political science or practical legislative experience. Graduate students may also apply.


DUTIES:
  • Research and track legislation
  • Research requests from State Chamber members and staff that pertain to proposed legislation or activities that involve state legislators
  • Review national legislation from various organizations and share how proposed legislation will affect State Chamber
  • Assist staff in drafting articles or other written pieces on Chamber or affiliate positions regarding various pieces of legislation
  • Administrative and other department support as needed
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • At least 10 hours a week availability
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
PHOTOGRAPHY INTERN
The Chamber hosts many events requiring high-quality photos for use in print and on the web. We also publish a bi-monthly magazine for which photography is often needed to supplement articles.

Open to: Students in their junior or senior year of college seeking photography portfolio building experience.


DUTIES:
  • Taking posed and candid photos at Chamber events
  • Taking business editorial photos for Delaware Business magazine
  • Editing photos as needed
REQUIREMENTS:
  • A DSLR camera is preferred
  • Proficiency with photo editing software (Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills

MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN, INTERN DELAWARE PROGRAM
The Partnership, Inc., the 501(c)(3) workforce development affiliate of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, fosters private sector involvement in education and workforce development to ensure the First State has a sustainable pipeline of talent.

​A flagship program of The Partnership, Intern Delaware seeks to attract and retain Delaware’s future workforce by providing supplemental educational and networking opportunities to summer interns. From June to August, Intern Delaware provides access to business and community leaders through a speaker series, encourages interns to explore Delaware through our mobile event app engagement game and planned experiences, and allows participants to create and strengthen their networks—all to promote the First State as a great place to live and work after college.

Open to: Students in their junior or senior year of college seeking experience in marketing and communications.

DUTIES:
  • Support the design and execution of social media campaigns (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter)
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of content such as blogs, infographics, videos, and marketing materials on social media and traditional news outlets
  • Develop new strategies for increasing engagement
  • Assist in the production of Delaware Business magazine by writing articles, taking photos, etc. 
  • On-site event support coordination for events ranging in size from 50-100 attendees
  • Track event details and assist in overall event planning 
  • Database and information management
  • Other administrative tasks as needed
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Two years of academic progress toward a degree in marking, communications, or digital media, and previous relevant internship experience preferred
  • Experience with programs like Adobe Creative Suite or Canva preferred, but not required
  • Experience creating digital content to post on social media platforms professional or academic settings
  • Previous event planning experience in professional or academic settings
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proven strong verbal communication skills
