Want to gain real-world experience and build valuable connections in Delaware’s business community? Since 1837, the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce has been the voice of business in the First State, helping companies of all sizes stay competitive in a constantly changing market. As a Chamber intern, you will work on meaningful projects, sharpen your professional abilities, and connect with business and community leaders. Whether you are interested in communications, policy, events, or data, we have opportunities to match your skills and goals.

We offer internships year-round. While positions are unpaid, we work with colleges and universities to provide academic credit and we reimburse parking costs. COMMUNICATIONS & EVENTS INTERN
The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce produces an award-winning bimonthly magazine, manages a variety of electronic communications, and handles media and public relations for news and events. We also plan and execute dozens of events each year, ranging from intimate networking breakfasts of about 50 people to our signature Annual Dinner that draws more than 1,000 attendees. Applicants must include two to three writing samples along with your inquiry.

​Who should apply: Students in their junior or senior year of college seeking practical business/technical communications and publishing experience.
DUTIES:
  • Assisting in the production of Delaware Business magazine by writing articles, taking photos, editing, etc.
  • Crafting press releases and marketing materials
  • Database and information management
  • Social media scheduling and content creation
  • Creation of marketing graphics
  • Assisting with event planning and coordination
  • Supporting staff at events with registration, taking photos, and assisting members as needed​
  • Working with event vendors and attendees
  • Providing customer service
  • Administrative and other department support as needed
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
  • Demonstrated business and professional writing skills
  • At least 10 hours a week availability
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced team environment
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or Canva preferred, but not required

POLICY INTERN
The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce serves as the voice of the state’s business community. In this role, the Chamber is both an advocate and a trusted resource. As a policy intern, you will see legislative advocacy in action — from visiting Legislative Hall and interacting with state legislators and lobbyists, to tracking bills from their proposal through to implementation. This is a rare opportunity to get a first-hand look into how policy is shaped and passed in Delaware

Who should apply: Students in their junior or senior year ​seeking political science or legislative experience. Graduate students are also welcome to apply. 
DUTIES:
  • Research and track legislation
  • Research requests from State Chamber members and staff that pertain to proposed legislation or activities that involve state legislators
  • Review national legislation from various organizations and share how proposed legislation will affect State Chamber
  • Assist staff in drafting articles or other written pieces on Chamber or affiliate positions regarding various pieces of legislation
  • Administrative and other department support as needed
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • At least 10 hours a week availability
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

PHOTOGRAPHY INTERN
The Delaware State Chamber hosts a wide variety of events that need high-quality photography for use in print, online, and across social media. We also publish a bimonthly magazine where compelling images help bring articles to life.

As a photography intern, you will have the opportunity to capture everything from intimate networking events to large-scale gatherings, and to see your work published in professional media. This role offers a chance to build your portfolio while gaining real-world experience in event and editorial photography.

Who should apply: Students in their junior or senior year ​seeking to grow their photography skills and develop a professional portfolio.
DUTIES:
  • Taking posed and candid photos at Chamber events
  • Taking business editorial photos for Delaware Business magazine
  • Editing photos as needed
  • Other communications-related tasks as needed
  • Administrative and other department support as needed
REQUIREMENTS:
  • A DSLR camera is preferred
  • Proficiency with photo editing software (Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
