Delaware State Chamber of Commerce
seeks interns throughout the year. The mission of the Delaware State
Chamber of Commerce is to promote an economic climate that
strengthens the competitiveness of Delaware businesses and
benefits citizens of the state. The Chamber will provide
services members want; it will serve and be recognized as the
primary resource on matters affecting companies of all sizes,
and it will be the leading advocate for business with government

Business
The State Chamber works with businesses, government agencies and
various organizations to promote business interests and foster a
competitive business environment. Interns will support these
duties, as well as the Delaware Retail Council and the
Small Business Alliance.
Open to:
Students seeking practical business experience
Duties:
- Assist staff with
correspondence
- Perform administrative tasks
- Assist with planning of and
attend business events and meetings
Requirements:
- Familiarity with Microsoft
Office programs (Word and Excel)
- At least 10 hours a week

Communications - Editorial/Public
Relations
The Communications Department runs a four-color magazine, an
award-winning Web site and e-mail newsletters, and handles all media and public relations
work for the Chamber. Interns will support these duties.
Open to:
Juniors or seniors seeking practical business/technical communications and
publishing experience.
Duties:
- Writing articles, press releases
and marketing materials
- Copyediting and proofreading
- Media contact work
- Reviewing databases and
spreadsheets for errors/troubleshooting e-mail addresses
(Basic familiarity with e-mail and Internet are the only
requirements. This is not a technical position.)
- Clipping/clerical work as
needed
- Collaborating on social media.
Requirements:
- Familiarity with Microsoft
Office programs
- Demonstrated clips/press
releases/communications experience
- Published clips are a plus
- 10-15 hours a week

Event &
Conference Management
The Events Department organizes and implements close to 50
events per year, ranging from small networking breakfasts that
attract approximately 50 people to our Annual Dinner with an attendance of
more than 1,100 people. Interns will help support this department
and its functions.
Open to:
Juniors or seniors seeking event planning and conference
experience.
Duties:
- Assisting in event planning
and coordination
- Assisting Events Manager at
events
- Tracking event info and
entering info about upcoming events on master calendar.
- Data entry
- Working with event vendors and
attendees via telephone and in person
- Customer service
- Clerical work as needed
Requirements:
- Familiarity with Microsoft
Office programs
- Ability to multi-task in a
fast-paced team environment
- At least 10 hours a week
availability
- Good verbal and written
skills, good interpersonal skills

Legislative Affairs
The State Chamber acts as the voice of the Delaware business
community to state legislators. In this role it serves as an
advocate and a resource center.
This intern would have the see
legislative advocacy in action by visiting Legislative Hall,
interacting with state legislators and lobbyists and following
legislation from the proposal stage to the implementation stage.
Open to:
Juniors or seniors seeking political science or practical
legislative experience.
Duties:
- Research and track
legislation.
- Research requests from State
Chamber members and staff that pertain to proposed legislation
or activities that involve state legislators.
- Review national legislation
from various organizations and share how proposed legislation
will affect State Chamber.
- Assist staff in drafting
articles or other written pieces on Chamber or affiliate
positions regarding various pieces of legislation.
- Clerical duties as needed.
