Teacher Externship Program

The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, the Delaware Department of Education, the University of Delaware and Delaware Technical & Community College have joined efforts to sponsor a unique program that gives educators the opportunity to work on site at a business location for three days. The Externship Program aims to bring real world experience to the classroom by giving educators the opportunity to see how the curricular areas and the standards to which they teach relate to the world of work outside the classroom. Educators learn about the business community and its expectation of future employees and what teachers can do to help students understand the world of work.

The program has grown tremendously since its inception. Jim Smith, Conectiv public affairs coordinator, says, "Conectiv realizes it will need highly skilled professionals and we see this as one way to sow the seeds for future success. We know that a well-trained and highly-skilled work force translates into continued, reliable and safe service to our customers."
